What is SBET?

The Small Business Employee Training Program (SBET) is designed to support businesses and industry by developing the skills of existing employees through standardized training. Employers receive reimbursements for tuition, textbooks, and manuals after training completion and submission of proper documentation to the Louisiana Department of Labor (LDOL). Training costs are capped at $3,000 per trainee per state fiscal year (July 1 – June 30). Funding is provided through the Workforce Development Training Account.

Eligibility Criteria

For Individual Owners:

Louisiana resident for at least one year
Personal net worth under $200,000 (excluding primary residence, retirement accounts, and business value)

For Businesses:

At least 60% owned by qualified individuals
Principal place of business in Louisiana
50 or fewer employees
In operation for 3+ years
Located in Louisiana
For-profit organization
Annual gross revenue under $10.5 million
Business net worth under $750,000
Owners dedicate at least 35 hours per week to the business

How SBET Works:

Apply online (30 days before the training start date)
Receive approval
Complete training
Submit documentation
